Covid 19 Advice
With the UK Government and Cycling organisations changing advice on a regular basis we ask all our members to ensure they stay safe and up to date with the latest guidelines.
The Club Committee have looked at options to resume Club activities including Club Runs and Time Trials but at the current time it is not possible to resume activity. Unfortunately, this has meant the cancellation of a number events already and will continue until end July. A further assessment will take place towards the end July with the hope of resuming Club Runs in August if it is deemed safe. This includes looking at options for Café Stops and small group rides. The Committee is also hoping to run the Autumn 25 and Hill Climb Events, with a decision to be taken closer to the scheduled date.

Can I still cycle?

We are an established sporting cycling club formed the 1930’s, with a rich history of success in both promoting and competing in Road Races and Time Trials, especially during the period between 1960’s and 1990’s. Currently however, most of our members are more focused on riding for pleasure. We are now based to the west of London. Our clubhouse is Staines Sailing Club, 105 Chertsey Lane, Staines-upon-Thames  TW18 3LQ, where some of us meet every Tuesday night at 8:45 for refreshments and a chat.

We have a full programme of Sunday club runs that leave Staines Bridge at 9.15am, aiming to return by 2pm. These rides are social rides of about 40-60 miles with a cafe stop. Our various rides take place within a 20 to 30 mile arc from Staines upon Thames,  through Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.     There are also opportunities for retired members to join midweek rides on Tuesdays and Fridays.

On Tuesday evenings in summer there is the opportunity to join local riders on a fast training ride starting from Bishop’s Gate, Windsor Great Park at 6.30pm. These rides start and finish with BST and times may vary at the beginning and end of BST.

We have a programme of social activities including the Annual Club Dinner & Prize Presentation and our club camping/cycling holiday in August at Potterne in Wiltshire. Our members organize tours throughout the year to Mallorca, continental one day classic races in the Spring, the Tour de France and the Pyrenees for example.  Several times a year we publish the full colour club magazine the Quarter Wheeler. These are distributed by e-mail to those who have it and hard copies posted to those who do not. Past issues can be found on the club website.

We operate a programme of time trials and Audax rides open to members and non-members. These include Thursday evening 10 mile time trials and 3 other Sunday morning club 25 mile time trial events in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, where you can enter on the line and have a go!     Our Ron Brown Memorial Open 100 mile time trial, in May, must be entered in advance through Cycling Time Trials (CTT) ) See our website for the details of the club Racing Calendar. We also organize the well established 105k Audax London Sightseer event twice a year, midweek in June and Sunday in September.

We pride ourselves on making new faces very welcome which, we believe, is why we have been a successful club. Our membership is made up of all ages of men and women, if you’d like to take a closer look, you are welcome to just turn up to the clubhouse on a Tuesday evening at 9.00pm or on Sunday at Staines Bridge at 9.15 for a clubrun.

You may be a bit nervous about joining a club and riding with other people or have other questions in which case have a look at our FAQs or just email us.
